The ceramic wall rugs, hand-crafted by artist Marianne Huotari retell traditional Finnish textile wall rugs’ processes of manufacture with a modern accent. Designed with an intricate dedication to craftsmanship, each ceramic piece is formed by hand leaving fingerprints on each piece, in exactly the right shade of color, then burned and sewn by hand with a thin metallic thread to the base that gives each unique wall-rug its distinctive form.
Kotiseutu – The Spirit of Roots is an installation of ceramic wall rugs which tells the story of a little village called Pekankylä in the Kainuu region in the Northern Finland. It’s also an ode to the uniqueness of Finnish nature and one’s roots.
